Dada la prevalencia y carga global y regional del consumo de tabaco, particularmente como factor de riesgo de enfermedades no transmisibles, es importante que se amplíe y consolide el papel de los farmacéuticos en la prevención y la deshabituación del consumo de tabaco.
La FIP y su Foro Farmacéutico de las Américas le invitan a participar en este evento para conocer la carga del consumo de tabaco en la región de las Américas y el papel que pueden desempeñar los farmacéuticos en la deshabituación tabáquica. Leveraging pharmacists for tobacco cessation: New policy tools, evidence, and success stories
31 May 2024There are 1.25 billion adult tobacco users around the world, and 60% of them want to quit, but only around 35% of the world’s population have access to comprehensive tobacco cessation services.
Given the global prevalence and burden of tobacco use, particularly as a risk factor for noncommunicable diseases, it is important that the services provided by pharmacists in this area are expanded and consolidated. At this event, FIP will launch a global intelligence report on pharmacist-led tobacco cessation services. A joint WHO-FIP statement and call to action on the role of pharmacists in tobacco cessation and examples of successful pharmacist interventions/services in tobacco cessation will also be presented, along with findings from a survey and a systematic literature review.

Leveraging the role of pharmacists in tobacco cessation in India
10 August 2023Tobacco use is a global health problem with 1.13 billion smokers and 8 million deaths annually, including 1.2 million from second-hand smoke. With a smoking prevalence of 27.
2%, India is the thirty-seventh country with the highest smoking prevalence. It is a burden on individuals, communities and economies, causing various diseases and preventable deaths. Tobacco is a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases such as chronic respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes.
This digital event was organised by the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) in collaboration with the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). During the webinar, the FIP presented the two new publications on tobacco cessation: “Supporting tobacco cessation and the treatment of tobacco dependence: A handbook for pharmacists” and the “Knowledge and skills reference guide for professional development in tobacco cessation and other risk factors in NCDs”.

Leveraging the role of pharmacists in tobacco cessation in Jordan

8% of the population.1 It is a burden on individuals, communities and economies, causing various diseases and preventable deaths. Tobacco is a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases such as chronic respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes. At this event, FIP will present a new handbook to support pharmacists and their organizations in providing a range of tobacco cessation services. This will be accompanied by a reference guide identifying the knowledge and skills pharmacists need to provide such services.
